Amicable Separations

Often people are able to make amicable decisions following their separation. In such circumstances I will review with you the agreement you have reached to ensure you have made decisions about everything necessary and draw up the necessary paperwork to make your agreement binding.

Mediation

If you are working towards a financial settlement or arrangements for your children through mediation I can provide you with assistance throughout the process. You can and should take advice through the mediation process and in reviewing the sessions and preparing for the next one, you will always feel empowered in your mediation sessions knowing what you can realistically expect as an outcome. I can also help process and prepare the necessary documentation at the conclusion of your mediation sessions.

Services For Separating Couples

Practical Family Law Solutions works with couples who are going through the separation process, using coaching techniques and legal knowledge to assist in reaching agreements on fundamental issues during or after your separation. In our sessions we will explore your common goals and how you can move forward to achieve them. I will help you work constructively to find a solution and prepare necessary documentation.

Representing Yourself (Litigants In Person)

If you are representing yourself I can help you through the legal process. I can assist you by explaining the various legal processes that are required, completing forms and preparing documents. Unlike instructing a law firm to act on your behalf, I can be involved in as much or as little of your case as you choose – you may feel more comfortable checking each step with me or you may prefer to get in touch if there is a specific issue that you are not sure about.

If your case does go to Court, I can either help you find a barrister to represent you on the day, or alternatively I can attend with you as a McKenzie Friend. As a McKenzie Friend I am able to enter the courtroom with you and, although not able to address the judge on your behalf, I can make a note of the proceedings and quietly advise you through the session.

Working With Your Solicitor

If you have already instructed a solicitor, I can help by explaining legal terminology to you and help you with preparing any forms or disclosure your solicitor will require of you from time to time. By assisting you with these matters I can help you keep your legal costs significantly lower and provide a valuable additional resource and viewpoint on your case.

You my also like to do some coaching with me and we can feedback any decisions that you make to your solicitor so that your case can be managed to help you in achieving your goals. For example, if you decide that you need to make some career changes following your separation but need some further training, your solicitor can work towards incorporating this into your financial settlement both in financial support and timescales.
